(1) It is reported from al-Bara ibn Azib that: “The bowing of the Messenger of Allah, his rising from bowing, his prostration, and his sitting between the two prostrations were almost the same length.” This version is recorded by al-Bukhari (2/219, 229); Muslim (2/45); Abu Dawud (1/136); al-Nasai (1/162, 172); al-Tirmidhi (2/69), who graded it sound; al-Darimi (1/306); al-Bayhaqi (2/122); al-Tayalisi (100); and Ahmad (4/285), all through Shuʿbah → al-Hakam → ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla → al-Bara. Al-Bukhari adds in one recension: “except for the standing and the sitting.” Misʿar also transmitted it from al-Hakam with the wording: “The bowing of the Messenger of Allah, his standing after bowing, and his sitting between the two prostrations—we could not tell which of them was longer.” Ahmad related this version (4/298). Hilal ibn Abi Humayd likewise narrated it from Ibn Abi Layla, adding further details: “I observed the prayer of Muhammad and found his standing, his bowing, his standing erect after bowing, his prostration, his sitting between the two prostrations, his second prostration, and his sitting from the taslim until leaving the place, to be almost the same length.”
