ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿud, with the wording: “When your Prophet ﷺ was in bowing or prostration he would say: ‘Subhanaka, wa bi-hamdik, astaghfiruka, wa atubu ilayk.’” Al-Tabarani records it in al-Kabir with the chain: narrated to us Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Halabi – related to us ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar al-Raqqi – transmitted to us ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar – from Zayd ibn Abi Unaysa – from Hammad, who reported it. Ahmad ibn Khalid is Ahmad ibn Khalid ibn Yazid ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Kindī, as he is named in a hadith cited by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi (8/99). Al-Tabarani heard from him in the year 278 AH, as he notes in his Muʿjam al-Saghir (p. 6). I have found no independent biographical entry for him (*). The remaining transmitters are trustworthy narrators found in the Six Books, apart from Hammad; he is one of Muslim’s authorities, and al-Taqrib states: “trustworthy, reliable, but prone to slips.” I therefore think he erred in this report by assigning it to the Musnad of Ibn Masʿud, whereas it is actually the hadith of ʿAʾisha, as the two reliable transmitters related from Abu al-Duha—and Abu al-Duha himself has corroborating support. Al-Bukhari (8/596) narrates it with the wording: “After the verse ‘When the help of Allah and the victory come’ was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ never performed a prayer without saying in it: ‘Subhanaka Rabbana, wa bi-hamdik; Allahumma, ighfir li.’” Muslim has a similar report. In another version of Muslim, and likewise Ahmad (6/35) through the route of Dawud – from ʿAmir – from Masruq, the wording is: _________ (*) He is briefly mentioned in Siyar (13/489), where it is said: “I know of nothing objectionable about him.” See also al-Sahihah (7/340; 853).
