and placed his hands on his knees. Reported by Muslim and others; the complete text has already been cited under “Placing the right hand on the left” (p. 209). Al-Tahawi also records it through another chain (1/135) with a hasan isnad. 3- Among the supporting reports: ʿAbd Allah b. al-Qasim said, “We were sitting with ʿAbd al-Rahman b. Abza. He asked, ‘Shall I show you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah?’ We replied, ‘Yes.’ He then stood and pronounced the takbir, recited, bowed and placed his hands on his knees until every limb was set in its place; then he rose until every limb was set in its place; then he prostrated until every limb was set in its place; then he raised his head until every limb was set in its place; then he prostrated until every bone was set in its place; then he raised his head, and in the second rakʿah he did exactly as he had done in the first. Afterwards he said, ‘This is how the Messenger of Allah prayed.’ Recorded by Ahmad (3/407) through the route of Damrah from Ibn Shudhoub. The isnad is hasan and its transmitters are reliable, as stated in Majmaʿ (2/130). 4- A corroborating narration from Abu Masʿud al-Badri will appear shortly. (1) This concerns the hadith of Abu Humayd al-Saʿidi, reported by al-Bukhari and others and already mentioned. The additional wording occurs in Abu Dawud’s version through Fulayh b. Sulayman, who said that ʿAbbas b. Sahl narrated it from Abu Humayd. Its chain is sound, as noted above. The same addition is found in al-Tirmidhi (2/45-46)—who graded it “hasan sahih”—and in Ibn Khuzaymah’s Sahih (1/298/589).
