(1) This is the hadith of Abd Allah ibn Masud. It was transmitted from him by Alqama and al-Aswad: They entered upon him and he asked, “Did anyone pray behind you?” They replied, “Yes.” He then stood between them, placing one to his right and the other to his left. When we bowed we rested our hands on our knees; he struck our hands, then clasped his own hands together and set them between his thighs. When he had completed the prayer he said, “This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed.” Muslim recorded it (2/68-69), as did al-Tahawi (1/134), through the chain of Mansur from Ibrahim, from the two narrators. Ahmad also reported it (1/413-14) through another chain. Sulayman al-A mash likewise narrated it from Ibrahim, omitting the words “This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed,” but adding: “When one of you bows, let him spread his forearms over his thighs, bend forward, and interlace his fingers; it is as though I can still see the spacing between the Prophet’s ﷺ fingers.” This version is likewise found in Muslim, al-Tahawi, al-Bayhaqi (2/83), Ahmad (1/378, 426, 447), and al-Hazimi’s al-I‘tibar (pp. 60-61). Abu Dawud (1/139) records only the additional wording, while al-Nasa i (1/158) transmits the report without it, save for a small part.
