Al-Nasa’i, al-Tahawi, and Ahmad (6/167) also transmit the report, and it is authentic like the preceding version. (4) Narration of al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib. Al-Bukhari in Af‘al al-‘Ibad (79) and al-Tahawi relate it through Qanan ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Nahmi, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awsaja, from al-Bara’. The chain is hasan: all the transmitters are reliable except Qanan—spelled with a light nun—about whom Ibn Ma‘in said, “trustworthy.” Ibn Hibban lists him among the reliable narrators, whereas al-Nasa’i judged him “not strong.” Ibn Hajar attributed the hadith to Abu Ya‘la without comment, and his teacher al-Haythami (9/360) likewise cited it from Abu Ya‘la, remarking, “All its transmitters have been declared reliable, though there is some dispute about them.” There is a further supporting narration from Salama ibn Qays, recorded by al-Tabarani and al-Tahawi (no. 59) through Sharik ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Nakha‘i, from Malik ibn Mighwal, from Abu Ishaq, from Salama, with a good chain. Another corroboration comes from Anas; Abu Ya‘la records it with a hasan isnad. Ibn Sa‘d—cited in Fath al-Bari—also reports it in the wording: “Abu Musa rose one night to pray; the Prophet’s wives heard his voice, for his recitation was sweet.”
