Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

Its chain of transmission is strong, like the previous one. It is also transmitted through Marwan—“Qudamah narrated to us …” with the same wording—and Ibn Nasr (p. 59) likewise reports it [from Abd al-Wahid b. Ziyad: “Qudamah narrated to us …”] with similar wording. A corroborating report appears in al-Tirmidhi’s Sunan (2/310–311) and in al-Shamaʾil (2/95–96): “Abu Bakr Muhammad b. Nafiʿ al-Basri narrated to us; Abd al-Samad b. Abd al-Warith narrated to us; from Ismail b. Muslim al-Abdi; from Abu al-Mutawakkil al-Naji; from Aisha, who said: ‘One night the Prophet ﷺ stood reciting a single verse of the Quran …’.” Al-Tirmidhi comments: “A hadith that is hasan gharib through this route.” All the transmitters are trustworthy and belong to the categories accepted by the two Shaykhs, except Abu Bakr Muhammad b. Nafiʿ al-Basri. Shaykh Ali al-Qari writes: “Some say he is unknown, for he is not listed in the biographical works; perhaps he is Muhammad b. Wasiʿ al-Basri.” This is far-fetched, for Ibn Wasiʿ is a junior tabiʿi who narrates from Anas b. Malik, Salim b. Abd Allah and other senior tabiʿin, and therefore cannot be one of al-Tirmidhi’s teachers. The correct identification is Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Nafiʿ, Abu Bakr al-Basri; al-Tirmidhi cited him by his grandfather’s name. He is well known by his kunya, and Muslim, al-Nasaʾi and others transmit from him, so the isnad is sahih. Ahmad (3/62) also records the report: “Zayd b. Hubab narrated to us; Ismail b. Muslim al-Naji informed us; from Abu Nadra; from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri: that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept repeating one verse until dawn.” [The text within brackets is supplied from Ibn Nasr to complete the author’s intention. Allah knows best.]
