Al-Nasai (1/156–157), Ibn Majah (1/407), al-Tahawi (1/205), al-Hakim (1/241), and Ahmad (5/156, 177) all transmit it through several chains from Qudamah b. Abd Allah al-Amiri, from Jasrah bt. Dajajah, who reports it. Al-Hakim judged its chain to be sahih (sound), and al-Dhahabi agreed. Al-Hafiz al-Iraqi likewise declared it sahih (1/252), as did others. In the Zawaid it is said: “Its isnad is sahih and all its transmitters are trustworthy,” and further: “It is also recorded by al-Nasai in al-Kubra and by Ibn Khuzaymah in his Sahih (1/70/1 = 1/271).”
I add: Ibn Hibban alone explicitly graded Qudamah trustworthy, yet a number of reliable imams—among them al-Thawri, Ibn al-Mubarak, and Yahya b. Saʿid—narrated from him. As for Jasrah, both Ibn Hibban and al-Ajli considered her reliable, and several scholars narrated from her as well. Hence the hadith is at least hasan (reliable); indeed, it is unquestionably sahih when paired with the corroborating report cited next.
Ahmad also gives a version (5/149): “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the night prayer, and he kept reciting one verse until daybreak, bowing and prostrating with it: ‘If You punish them, they are but Your servants…’ (Quran 5:118). When morning came I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, you continued to recite this verse until daybreak, bowing and prostrating with it!’ He replied, ‘I asked my Lord for intercession on behalf of my community, and He granted it to me; God willing, it will reach all who do not ascribe partners to Allah.’”
This wording is transmitted from Muhammad b. Fudayl: “Fulayt” al-Amiri related it to us from Jasrah al-Amiriyyah. The original manuscript reads “Maysarah,” which is a scribal error. “Fulayt,” in the diminutive, is Qudamah b. Abd Allah.
