Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and at other times he would recite about as much as the verse, “O you who are wrapped up” (73:20) (1).

Moreover, the Prophet ﷺ would not spend the whole night in prayer (2) except on rare occasions. ʿAbdullāh ibn Khabbāb ibn al-Aratt—who had fought at Badr alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—once kept watch over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the entire night (in another wording: on a night when he prayed all of it) until dawn approached. When the Prophet concluded his prayer with the taslīm, Khabbāb ibn al-Aratt said to him, “O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you;”

“In the hadith of the eclipse prayer we find: ‘he bowed for about the same length as his standing,’ and in the report of Hudhayfah cited earlier it is to the same effect.” He also said: “Other than this narration of Aishah it is well established that he sometimes recited even more than that.” I add: Abu Dawud (1/212–213) transmits through two sound isnads from her that, after performing the ‘isha prayer, the Prophet would go to his bed and sleep; he would then rise to his prayer-place and offer eight rak‘ahs, making the recitation, bowing, and prostration of each of them equal… (1) Ibn ‘Abbas narrated: “I was in the house of Maymunah when the Prophet rose to pray at night. I stood on his left, so he took my hand and placed me on his right. He then prayed thirteen rak‘ahs; I estimated the length of his standing in each rak‘ah to be about that of the surah Ya ayyuha al-muzzammil.” Ahmad (1/365–366) recorded it through ‘Abd al-Razzaq – Ma‘mar – Ibn Tawus – ‘Ikrimah b. Khalid – Ibn ‘Abbas, and it is likewise reported by Abu Dawud (1/215) and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir from ‘Abd al-Razzaq. The chain is sound according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim. (2) According to a hadith of Aishah: “I never knew the Messenger of Allah to recite the entire Quran in a single night, nor to stand in prayer for an entire night until dawn.”
