Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and he forbade him to complete its recitation in less time than that (1). He explained the reason, saying to him:
“Whoever recites the Quran in fewer than three days will not comprehend it.”
In another wording:
“He does not understand it, the one who recites the Quran in less than three days.” (*)
He also said to him:
“Every worshipper experiences a shirra (an initial surge of zeal), and every shirra is followed by a lull; that lull will lead either to the Sunnah or to innovation. Whoever, when his zeal wanes, remains within the Sunnah is rightly guided, but whoever’s lull turns him toward anything other

— as noted earlier (p. 511) — he did not recite it in fewer than that, and he is for us an excellent model. (1) This is implicit in the sequence and context of the story; nevertheless, al-Darimi (2/471) transmits it explicitly with the wording: “The Messenger of Allah instructed me not to recite the Quran in less than three (nights).” He relates it through the chain of ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad, who said: ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Rafiʿ narrated to me from Ibn ʿAmr. The chain is weak, yet the purport is sound for the reasons mentioned above. It is corroborated by the hadith of Ibn Masʿud, which we cited shortly before (p. 520). (*) See the documentation on p. 519–520. (2) Pronounced with kasra on the letter shin, the ra doubled, followed by a feminine ta: it means vigor and high resolve. Shirratu l-shabab refers to the onset and vehemence of youth (al-Targhib). Al-Tahawi comments: “It denotes the impulsive intensity a Muslim applies to the devotional acts by which he seeks closeness to his Lord. The Messenger of Allah preferred from them a level beneath that intensity, because they are bound to fall short of it and turn to something else. He therefore instructed them to cling to those righteous deeds they can regularly maintain and persevere in until they meet their Lord. It is related from him, peace be upon him, in the chapter entitled Kashf …”
