It was transmitted by al-Tabarani in al-Kabir. In its chain appears Ubayd ibn Ishaq al-Attar. Al-Haythami notes (2/275): “Ibn Maʿin and others judged him weak, whereas Abu Hatim regarded him acceptable.” (1) A report from Aishah – may Allah be pleased with her – states: “I do not know that the Messenger of Allah ever recited the whole Quran in a single night, nor that he stood in prayer for an entire night until dawn.” It is recorded by Muslim (2/169-170); Abu Dawud (1/210-211); al-Nasaʾi (1/237, 243); Ibn Nasr (48-49); al-Darimi (1/344-346); and Ahmad (6/53-54) through the route of Saʿid ibn Abi ʿArubah → Qatadah → Zurarah → Saʿd ibn Hisham → her. The report is part of her long narration on the Prophet’s witr prayer. It also contains the statement that Saʿd ibn Hisham said: “I then went to Ibn Abbas and informed him of her report, and he said: ‘She has spoken the truth.’” This additional wording is found only in Abu Dawud. Abu ʿUbayd, Ibn Saʿd (1/376), and Abu Shaykh in Akhlaq al-Nabi (p. 281) also related—through al-Tayyib ibn Sulayman → ʿAmrah → her—that “the Prophet would not complete the Quran in less than three nights.” Al-Hafiz cited it in Fath (9/79) without further comment. Ibn Kathir remarks in Fadaʾil al-Quran (p. 172): “This hadith is very unusual and weak, for al-Tayyib ibn Sulayman, a Basran, was declared weak by al-Daraqutni and is not well-known.” Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar then said:
