Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and "Sometimes he would recite, in every rakʿah, a surah from among them." (1)

I stood in prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night, and he recited the Seven Long Surahs, one surah in each of seven rakʿahs. Whenever he raised his head from bowing he would say, “Samiʿa-Llahu liman ḥamidah” (Allah hears those who praise Him), and then add, “al-ḥamdu lillah, dhi l-malakut wa l-jabarut wa l-kibriyaʾ wa l-ʿaẓama” (Praise be to Allah, Possessor of dominion, omnipotence, magnificence, and majesty). His bowing was as long as his standing, and his prostration as long as his bowing. When he concluded, my legs were almost unable to carry me. All of its transmitters are those used by Muslim except for Hudhayfa’s unnamed cousin, whom I have been unable to identify. It also appears that this is a separate incident that happened to Hudhayfa, distinct from the one mentioned earlier. Still, it may in fact be the same event, with some narrators having confused the details. Allah knows best. (1) This section contains two hadiths: The first is related by ʿAwf ibn Malik al-Ashjaʿi. He said: “I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one night. He began by using the siwak, then performed wuḍuʾ and stood to pray, so I stood with him. He opened with Surah al-Baqara; whenever he reached a verse of mercy he paused and asked for it, and whenever he reached a verse of punishment he paused and sought refuge. He then bowed, remaining in bowing for about the same length as his standing, saying during his bowing, ‘Subḥāna dhi l-malakut wa l-jabarut wa l-kibriyaʾ wa l-ʿaẓama’ (Glory be to the Possessor of dominion, omnipotence, magnificence, and majesty). He then prostrated for the same duration as his bowing. After that he stood and recited Āl ʿImrān, then al-Nisāʾ, and then one surah after another, doing the same each time.” Reported by Abu Dawud, 1:139; al-Bayhaqi, 2:310; al-Nasaʾi, 1:169; Ibn Nasr, no. 51 (his wording); and Ahmad, 6:24, all through the chain Muʿāwiya ibn Ṣāliḥ → ʿAmr ibn Qays → ʿĀṣim ibn Ḥumayd → ʿAwf ibn Malik. The chain is sound, as al-Nawawi affirmed in al-Adhkār and in al-Majmūʿ, 4:67.
