Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

It was recorded by Abu Dawud and others. There, I argued that the unnamed "Absian" transmitter is in fact Sila ibn Zufar—the man named in Muslim’s chain—so Shuʿba’s isnad is likewise sound. Al-Nasaʾi and al-Hakim transmit the same report and state that the prayer consisted of four rakʿahs, yet this seems to contradict Muslim’s explicit wording that the Prophet recited the three surahs in a single rakʿah. Shuʿba’s version says that he recited them together with al-Maʾidah—or al-Anʿam—in the four rakʿahs. One might take his phrase “he would recite in them” to mean “in each one of them,” but that is far-fetched and serves only to reconcile the accounts; otherwise, Muslim’s report remains the stronger and more reliable. Al-Hakim’s narration is further supported by al-Tabarani in al-Awsat, transmitted from Hudhayfah: “I came to the Messenger while he was praying and joined him, though he was unaware of my presence. He began al-Baqarah, and I thought he would bow, but he continued”—Sinnan (a narrator) added: “I think he said”—“and he completed four rakʿahs; his bowing was equal in length to his standing. When I told the Prophet afterward, he said, ‘Why did you not let me know?’ Hudhayfah replied, ‘By the One who sent you with the truth, I still feel it in my back to this moment.’ The Prophet said, ‘Had I known you were behind me, I would have shortened it.’” Al-Haythami comments (Majmaʿ, 2/275): “Its chain contains Sinnan ibn Harun al-Burjumi. Ibn Maʿin said, ‘Sinnan ibn Harun is the brother of Sayf, and Sinnan’s condition is better,’ and on another occasion, ‘Sinnan is more reliable than Sayf.’ Others besides Ibn Maʿin judged him weak.” Al-Taqrib describes him as: “Truthful, though somewhat weak.” A version with slightly different wording will follow shortly.
