Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

…

“Subhana rabbi al-ʿazim” (Glory be to my Lord, the Tremendous) for as long as he had stood; then he raised his head and said, “Samiʿa Allahu liman hamidah, rabbana laka al-hamd” (Allah hears the one who praises Him; our Lord, to You belongs all praise) for the same length of time. He then went into prostration, saying, “Subhana rabbi al-aʿla” (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High) for the same duration, after which he raised his head and said, “Rabbi-ghfir li” (My Lord, forgive me) for the same span, and then prostrated again, saying, “Subhana rabbi al-aʿla” for the same period. He prayed only two rakʿahs, until Bilal arrived and informed him of the prayer time. All the transmitters are those found in al-Bukhari except Khalaf ibn al-Walid, whom Ibn Maʿin, Abu Zurʿa, and Abu Hatim declared trustworthy, as stated in al-Taʿjil. Al-Nasaʾi (1/246) and al-Hakim (1/321) also narrated it through two chains from al-ʿAlaʾ ibn al-Musayyab with a similar wording, but both of them—al-Hakim’s version being cited—state: He prayed only four rakʿahs of the ʿatama (late-night prayer) from the beginning of the night to its end, until Bilal came and informed him of the dawn prayer. Portions of it were reported by al-Bayhaqi (2/95–96, 109) and likewise by al-Hakim and others, as mentioned earlier under “The Opening Supplications,” just before “The Recitation” [p. 269]. Al-Hakim then said, “Sound according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs,” and al-Dhahabi concurred, but this is not the case. Al-Nasaʾi graded it defective because the chain is interrupted, as we noted there. Shuʿbah, however, related it from ʿAmr ibn Murrah—who heard Abu Hamzah (Talhah ibn Yazid) narrate from a man of ʿAbs—from Hudhayfa with a similar wording: He performed four rakʿahs in which he recited al-Baqara, Ali ʿImran, al-Nisaʾ, and al-Maʾida—or al-Anʿam; Shuʿbah was uncertain.
