(1) This section contains the hadith of Abu Hurayrah; its full documentation has already been provided under “Recitation in Fajr.” Al-Tahawi also cites this very portion (1/126) through the same chain, and Ibn Abd al-Barr declared it sound as well, as noted in Zad al-Maad (1/75). (2) It rests on several hadiths: First: the report of Rafi b. Khadij who said, “We used to perform Maghrib with the Prophet, and when one of us left he could still see where his arrows would land.” Related by al-Bukhari (2/33), Muslim (2/115), Ibn Majah (1/233), and Ahmad (4/141-142), all of them through al-Awzaʿi who said: “Abu al-Najashi Suhayb, the freedman of Rafi b. Khadij, narrated to us, saying, ‘I heard Rafi say this.’” Second: the report of Anas, preserved through two chains: 1. Hammad said, “Thabit related it to me from him with the same purport.” Recorded by Abu Dawud (1/68) and al-Tahawi (1/125); its isnad is sound according to Muslim’s criteria. 2. From Humayd, from Anas; Ahmad records it (3/114, 189, 199, 205) through multiple routes. This chain is likewise sound on the criteria of al-Shaykhayn and is thulathi (only three narrators between Anas and Ahmad). Third: a similar wording from a man of the tribe of Aslam who was one of the Prophet’s Companions. Reported by al-Nasaʾi (1/90) and Ahmad (5/371) through Shuʿbah, who said: “Abu Bishr narrated to us …”
