Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

And on other occasions he would recite: “By the sky with its constellations” (85:22), and: “By the sky and the night-piercing star” (86:17) and other surahs of similar length. (1)

At times he also recited: “By the night when it envelops” (92:21) and the like. (2)

(1) Jabir b. Samurah – may Allah be pleased with him – also narrated the wording: “He used to recite in the zuhr and ʿasr …,” and the report is found in al-Bukhari’s Juzʾ (21); Abu Dawud 1/128; al-Nasaʾi 1/153; al-Tirmidhi 2/110-11; al-Darimi 1/295; al-Tahawi 1/122; al-Bayhaqi 2/391; al-Tayalisi 105; Ahmad 5/103, 106, 108; and al-Tabarani’s al-Kabir, all through the chain Hammad b. Salamah → Simak b. Harb → Jabir. Al-Tirmidhi comments: “A hasan sahih hadith,” and in fact its isnad meets Muslim’s criteria. Al-Tabarani also transmits it through Sharik → Simak, but specifies the fajr prayer and cites *wa-al-shamsi wa-duhaha* (By the sun and its brightness) instead of *wa-al-samaʾi dhati al-buruj* (By the sky with its constellations). Sharik’s poor memory is well known. (2) Another version from Jabir b. Samurah reads: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite in the zuhr and ʿasr prayers *al-layl idha yaghsha* (By the night when it envelops) and similar surahs, and at the subh (fajr) prayer something longer than that.” Al-Tayalisi records it (104) via Shuʿbah → Simak b. Harb, and through this route it also appears in Ibn Khuzaymah 1/67/2 = 1/257/510, al-Bayhaqi 2/391, al-Tabarani’s al-Kabir, and Ahmad 5/108 (ʿAbd al-Rahman → Shuʿbah).
