(4) From Saʿd ibn Abi Waqqas, with wording like the preceding narration. Ibn Majah transmits it through al-Harith ibn Nabhan—ʿAsim ibn Bahdalah—Musʿab ibn Saʿd—from his father. Al-Harith is weak. (5) From ʿAli (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet ﷺ prostrated in the dawn prayer when he recited “tanzil …” (Surat al-Sajdah). Al-Haythami notes (2/169): “Al-Tabarani reported it in al-Awsat and al-Saghir, and the chain contains al-Harith, who is weak.” Al-Hafiz says in Fath al-Bari: “Its isnad is weak.” I add: al-Saghir (p. 95) gives it through Layth ibn Abi Sulaym—ʿAmr ibn Murrah—al-Harith—from him; both Layth and al-Harith are weak. (Additional point) Al-Hafiz also states: “I have not found in any other route an explicit statement that he ﷺ prostrated after reciting ‘tanzil …’ (Surat al-Sajdah) in this context except in Ibn Abi Dawud’s Kitab al-Shariʿah, through another chain from Saʿid ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ on Friday at the dawn prayer; he recited a surah that contained a prostration, so he prostrated …”
