And on Fridays he would perform it, reciting “Alif Lām Mīm. Tanzīl” — Sura al-Sajdah (32:30) [in the first rakʿah, and in the second] “Has there come upon man…” — Sura al-Insan (76:31). (1)
Dhiʾb and said, “from al-Zuhri or someone else,” whereas the correct narrator is this very al-Harith.
The hadith is also reported by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih—as cited in Nasb al-Rayah (2/4)—and by al-Diyaʾ al-Maqdisi in al-Mukhtarah. It likewise appears in Sunan al-Nasaʾi (1/132), but without the phrase “in the dawn prayer.” The same abridged wording is found in Ahmad (2/26, 40, 157) and in al-Maqdisi, whereas the additional clause is soundly established.
(1) There are numerous supporting narrations:
First: from Abu Hurayrah, transmitted through several routes.
1. Saʿd ibn Ibrahim narrates from ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Aʿraj, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: “The Prophet ﷺ used to recite in the Friday dawn prayer Alif-Lam-Mim Tanzil—that is, Surah al-Sajdah—and Hal Ata ʿala al-Insan—that is, Surah al-Insan.” Reported by al-Bukhari (2/302); Muslim (3/16); al-Darimi (1/362); likewise by al-Nasaʾi (1/151), Ibn Majah (1/273), al-Bayhaqi (3/201), al-Tayalisi (p. 313), and Ahmad (2/430, 472). The additional wording occurs only in Muslim.
2. Shuʿbah narrates from Muhammad ibn Ziyad, who said: “I heard Abu Hurayrah say …,” and he mentioned the same. Reported by Ahmad (2/430). Its chain is sound according to the criteria of the six canonical collections, yet none of them included it.
The second hadith: from Ibn ʿAbbas with identical wording. It is related by Muslim, Abu Dawud (1/169), al-Nasaʾi (1/152, 209–210), and al-Tirmidhi
