and he also recited from Sūrah at-Tūr (52:49); that took place during the Farewell Pilgrimage (1).
that he heard Jabir b. Samurah say it, and he narrated the whole report. Al-Hakim judged it “sound according to Muslim’s criteria,” a verdict with which al-Dhahabi agreed, and this is indeed correct. Ibn Hibban likewise included it in his Sahih, as noted in Nasb al-Rayah, 2/4. Al-Thawri also corroborated Simak’s transmission, according to al-Bayhaqi, 2/389. Muslim and others transmit the same hadith through another chain from Simak with the wording: “Qaf. Wa-l-Qurani…” and similar passages; this will be cited below.
(1) This concerns the hadith of Umm Salamah.
Al-Bukhari records it in suspended form (2/201) under the heading “Reciting aloud in the Fajr prayer,” quoting Umm Salamah: “I performed tawaf behind the people while the Prophet was praying and reciting al-Tur.” He then supplies the connected chain himself (3/377–378, 385), and it is likewise related by Muslim (4/68), Abu Dawud (1/295), al-Nasa’i (2/37), Ibn Majah (2/225), and Ahmad (6/290, 319), all through Malik (2/336) → Abu al-Aswad Muhammad b. Abd al-Rahman b. Nawfal → Urwah b. al-Zubayr → Zaynab bt. Abi Salamah → Umm Salamah, wife of the Prophet, who said:
“I complained to the Messenger of Allah that I was unwell, so he told me, ‘Circumambulate behind the people while riding.’ I therefore made tawaf on my camel, and the Messenger of Allah was then praying beside the House, reciting: al-Tur. Wa kitab mastur (By the Mount, and by a written scroll).”
This particular wording does not state that the recitation took place in the Fajr prayer; that detail appears in a different version.
