Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and whenever he recited, “Is He not able to give life to the dead?” he would respond, “Glory be to You! Indeed He is.”(1) And when he recited, “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High,” he would say:

nor is it contradicted by the hadith, " aqrabu ma yakunu al-ʿabdu min rabbihi wa-huwa saajid " (the servant is nearest to his Lord while in prostration), for that nearness may relate to the likelihood of a prayer being answered during sujud, as the Prophet said: " fa-akthiruu ad-duʿaa " (so make abundant supplication). This, therefore, does not undermine the superiority of standing. Allah knows best. The scholars have differed over which is more virtuous, qiyaam (standing) or sujud (prostration). Abu Hanifa and his two companions—as cited by al-Tahawi (1/176; 275 – 276)—together with the Shafiʿis and others, held that standing is superior, basing themselves on this hadith and additional proofs. Others maintained that sujud is superior, relying on the hadith quoted by al-Sindi, to be mentioned later under “Prostration.” A third group took a middle course, saying that the first view applies at night and the second during the day. Al-Sindi remarks in his marginalia on al-Nasaʾi, “That is more in keeping with the Prophet’s practice.” Ibn al-Qayyim writes in Zad al-Maʿad (1/84), after presenting the three opinions and their evidences: “Our shaykh (Ibn Taymiyya) said: The correct view is that they are equal. Standing is superior because of its remembrance—the Qur’an recitation—whereas sujud is superior in its posture; the posture of prostration is better than the posture of standing, while the remembrance in standing is better than the remembrance in prostration. This was the Prophet’s practice: when he lengthened the standing, he lengthened the bowing and the prostration, and when he shortened the standing, he likewise shortened the bowing and the prostration.” (1) Abu Dawud, 1/141; al-Bayhaqi, 2/310, through the chain of Shuʿbah → Musa b. Abi ʿAʿisha: A man used to pray on the roof of his house, and whenever he recited “ alaysa zaalika bi-qaadirin ʿalaa an yuhyiya al-mawtaa ” (Is not He able to give life to the dead? – Q 75:40) he would respond, “Subhanak! Indeed, yes.” Asked why, he replied, “I heard it from the Messenger of Allah.” Also transmitted by Ibn Abi Hatim.
