He answered, “I love it.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Your love for it has admitted you to Paradise.” (1)
(1) Al-Bukhari cites the report in his Sahih (2/204–205) as a decisive muʿallaq narration, stating: “ʿUbayd Allah narrated from Thabit from Anas … .” Al-Tirmidhi (2/148, Bulaq ed.) and al-Bayhaqi (2/60–61) supply the full chain through ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Muhammad al-Darawardi from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, and al-Tirmidhi rules it “hasan sahih gharib.” The isnad conforms to Muslim’s criteria. Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani also transmit it, as noted in Fath al-Bari. In another route, al-Tirmidhi, al-Darimi (2/460–461) and Ibn Nasr (no. 65) relate—via Mubarak ibn Fadala → Thabit → Anas—that a man said, “By Allah, I love this surah: Qul huwa Allahu Ahad,” whereupon the Messenger of Allah said, “Your love for it has admitted you to Paradise.” This chain is hasan.
Nasir al-Din ibn al-Munir comments: “The hadith shows that intention can alter the ruling of an act: had the man said he repeated it only because he remembered nothing else, the Prophet might have ordered him to learn another surah. Instead he pleaded his love for it, revealing a sound motive, and the Prophet approved him. It also indicates that favoring and frequently reciting a particular part of the Quran out of personal inclination is permissible and is not considered abandonment of the rest.”
