Al-ʿAlaʾ b. Salih al-Asadi also corroborated this report from Salamah; al-Tirmidhi records it (2/29). Likewise, ʿAli b. Salih transmits it in Abu Dawud, whose wording is: “He voiced the Amin aloud,” and its chain is sound. Shuʿbah, however, differed in his transmission from Salamah, reporting that the Prophet “lowered his voice with it.” This version is found in al-Tayalisi (no. 138) and Ahmad (no. 316). Al-Daraqutni comments: “That is how Shuʿbah reported it, but it is said that he erred, for Sufyan al-Thawri, Muhammad b. Salamah b. Kuhayl, and others narrated from Salamah that he ‘raised his voice with Amin,’ and that is the correct wording.” Al-Bukhari, al-Tirmidhi, al-Bayhaqi, and others concur that the version of Sufyan and his peers is sound and that Shuʿbah was mistaken—although Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi did transmit it from Shuʿbah in the same sense as al-Thawri. Al-Bayhaqi (2/581) records the Shuʿbah version explicitly stating: he said “Amin,” “raising his voice with it.” Thus Shuʿbah’s report ultimately agrees with al-Thawri’s, which remains the most reliable, as Ibn Hajar affirms; Ibn al-Qayyim had already noted this in Iʿlam al-Muwaqqiʿin (2/396). 2) A second route: Abu Ishaq → ʿAbd al-Jabbar b. Waʾil → his father, with the same wording as above.
