And he would also say:
“Whoever recites a single letter from the Book of Allah will receive one good deed for it, and each good deed is multiplied tenfold. I do not say that Alif–Lām–Mīm counts as one letter; rather, Alif is a letter, Lām is a letter, and Mīm is a letter.” (*)
“An unknown narrator of the sixth tier.” Yet Maʿmar and Ibn Abi Layla also reported from him; this suggests he is someone else, if al-Dhahabi’s comment is accurate. Allah knows best.
Ahmad likewise transmitted (1:87–88, 96–97, 104)—and so did Abu Yaʿla—through al-Harith, from ʿAli: the Messenger of Allah forbade a man to raise his voice in recitation before the ʿIsha prayer or after it, lest he confuse his companions while they are praying.
Its chain is weak, as Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr noted; the defect lies in this al-Harith—al-Aʿwar—who is unreliable, as stated in Majmaʿ al-Zawaʾid.
