“It has therefore become perfectly clear that the strongest course taken by our scholars is to deem it preferable (istihsan) to recite during a silent prayer (sirriyah), a position transmitted from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan and adopted by a number of later jurists.” He continued: “The same view is held by a group of hadith scholars—may Allah reward them on the Day of Judgment. Anyone who examines the matter with fairness and plunges into the depths of fiqh and usul, avoiding partisanship, will concede with absolute certainty that in most disputed subsidiary and foundational issues the hadith scholars’ position is stronger than that of others. Whenever I tread the paths of disagreement, I find their opinion nearest to equity. May Allah bless them and reward them! And why not, when they are the true heirs of the Prophet ﷺ and the faithful deputies of his law? May Allah gather us in their company and let us die loving them and following their way.” End of citation.
