I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ run his little finger between the toes of his feet. He (Mālik) said, “This ḥadīth is ḥasan, and I have never heard of it until this very moment.”
After that I heard him being asked about it, and he instructed that the toes be interlaced (1).
3- al-Shāfiʿī — may Allah have mercy on him:
As for Imām al-Shāfiʿī, may Allah have mercy on him, the reports from him on this issue are more numerous and more splendid (2), and his followers act upon them more faithfully and are thus more fortunate. Among them are:
1- “There is no one but that some Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ escapes him and slips his notice. So whenever I state something or establish a principle and an authentic report from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ contradicts what I have said, the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is to be followed—that is my position.” (3)
2- “The Muslims are unanimously agreed that once a Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ becomes clear to a person, it is not lawful for him to abandon it for anyone’s opinion.” (4)
