You are the Sovereign; there is no deity but You. Glorified are You, and to You belongs all praise. You are my Lord and I am Your servant(1). I have wronged myself and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me all of my sins, for no one forgives sins except You. Guide me to the finest character traits, for none guides to their best except You. Turn away from me their evil qualities, for none can turn their evil from me but You. Here I am at Your service(2) and ever eager to obey(3); all goodness is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You(4). The one whom You guide is truly guided. By You and to You I stand; there is no escape and no refuge from You except with You. You are Blessed and Exalted. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
(1) Al-Azhari explains: it means, “I worship none but You.” The preferred sense is: “I acknowledge that You are my Master and Disposer and that Your decree prevails over me.” Al-Nawawi says the same.
(2) That is: I persist in obeying You, station after station. The phrase comes from alabba bi-l-maqam (“to stay in a place”). It is a dual verbal noun derived from labba or alabba after removing the extra letters, joined to the second-person pronoun, with the final nun dropped because of the construct state. The dual here conveys endless repetition, just as in the verse, “then look again and yet again” (67:4) — glance after glance, time after time (al-Mirqat, 1:512).
(3) Meaning: I give repeated assistance to Your command and follow, again and again, the religion You have approved. This is al-Azhari’s explanation.

The wording found in the printed edition of Sifat as-Salat is: “That is, evil is not attributed to Allah Most High, for there is no evil in His action; rather all of His actions are entirely good, revolving around justice, grace, and wisdom. All of it is good with no evil in it; a thing becomes evil only because it is cut off …”
