and its chain of transmission is weak; see Irwa al-Ghalil, no. 353. Al-Hafiz al-Zaylaʿi cites the hadith in Nasb al-Raya (1/314) and states: “Ibn Khuzaymah recorded it in his Sahih.” Allah knows best whether he reproduced it with a different isnad or merely through one of the two routes already mentioned (*). Whatever the case, the report is corroborated by the following: 2. Ahmad narrates (5/226): Yahya ibn Saʿid related to us, from Sufyan, who said: Samak reported to me, from Qabisah ibn Hulb, from his father, who said: “I saw the Prophet ﷺ turn to his right and to his left, and I saw him”—he added—“place this upon his chest.” Yahya described it as the right hand over the left, just above the wrist joint. Al-Tirmidhi graded this isnad hasan, as mentioned earlier. All of its narrators are used by Muslim except Qabisah. Ibn al-Madini and al-Nasaʾi judged him “unknown,” the former adding, “No one narrated from him except Samak.” Al-ʿIjli considered him “a trustworthy tabiʿi.” Ibn Hibban listed him among al-Thiqat and—according to al-Dhahabi—authenticated his hadith. In al-Taqrib he is rated “acceptable.” 3. It is further supported by the third hadith: Abu Dawud said (1/121): Abu Tutbah narrated to us; al-Haytham—meaning Ibn Humayd—narrated to us, from Thawr, from Sulayman ibn Musa, from Tawus, who said: … (*) The Shaykh later found the narration in Ibn Khuzaymah and cited it (1/54/2 = 1/243/479) in the printed edition of Sifat al-Salat (p. 88, al-Maʿarif); it follows the chain of Muammal ibn Ismaʿil from Sufyan.
