However, several transmitters relate it from Asim with the wording: “He took his left hand with his right.” They include:
– Bishr b. al-Mufaddal: recorded by Abu Dawud, al-Nasa i (1/186), and Ibn Majah (1/270);
– Abd al-Wahid b. Ziyad: recorded by Ahmad (4/316) and al-Bayhaqi (2/72);
– Bishr b. Mu adh: recorded by Ibn Majah;
– Salam b. Sulaym: recorded by al-Tayalisi (no. 137);
– Zuhayr b. Mu awiyah: in the Musnad (4/318);
– Khalid b. Abd Allah: recorded by al-Bayhaqi (2/131).
All six report it from Asim with the wording akhadha (“he took”), as noted above.
This is further supported by the hadith of Qabisah b. Hulb, from his father, who said: “The Messenger of Allah used to lead us in prayer, and he would take his left hand with his right.” It is related by al-Tirmidhi (2/32), Ibn Majah (1/270), and Ahmad (5/226) through Abu al-Ahwas—Simak b. Harb—from him. Al-Tirmidhi classed it as hasan (sound).
I add: its transmitters are those found in Muslim except for this Qabisah. Ibn al-Madini and al-Nasa i deemed him majhul (unknown); the former added: “No one narrated from him except Simak.” Al-Ajli, however, considered him a trustworthy tabi i (Successor).
