Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

and placing the right hand over the left, together with the command to do so:

“He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to place his right hand over his left.” (*)

He also said:

“We—the company of prophets—have been instructed to hasten our ifṭār (breaking the fast), delay our suḥūr (pre-dawn meal), and to place our right hands over our left hands in prayer.” (1)

(*) In the original edition the shaykh marked the tradition as follows: “Ahm (4/318); H-aq (28); Ibn Hibban (485).” In Sifat al-Salat he cited it saying: “Muslim and Abu Dawud; it is also recorded in al-Irwa (no. 352).” For a fuller discussion see the hadith of Wa’il b. Hujr below (pp. 209–210). (1) The hadith is authentic and has several lines of transmission. First chain: Al-Tabarani related it in al-Kabir (no. 11485) and in al-Awsat (1/100/1 = no. 1884): “Ahmad b. Tahir b. Harmalah b. Yahya narrated to us; my grandfather Harmalah b. Yahya narrated to us; Ibn Wahb narrated to us; he was informed by Amr b. al-Harith who said: I heard Ata b. Abi Rabah say: I heard Ibn Abbas say: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say …” and he mentioned the wording. Al-Maqdisi then reproduced it from al-Tabarani in al-Mukhtarah (11/208/200) with the same chain, adding: “We included Ahmad b. Tahir b. Harmalah merely for corroboration.” All the transmitters in this isnad are narrators used by Muslim except al-Tabarani’s own shaykh, who is accused of fabrication. Nevertheless, Ibn Hajar in al-Talkhis (3/277) ascribes the hadith both to al-Tabarani in al-Awsat and to Ibn Hibban—meaning his Sahih, as Ibn al-Turkmani clarifies in al-Jawhar al-Naqi—through the narration of Ibn Wahb. It therefore seems that both scholars cited another route from Harmalah on his authority, for Ibn Hajar, when he quoted al-Tabarani’s wording, said:
