It is recorded by Muslim (2/13), al-Bayhaqi (2/28, 71) and Ahmad (4/317) through Hammam, who said: Muhammad b. Juhada narrated to us; he said that Abd al-Jabbar b. Wail related from Alqama b. Wail and from a family client of theirs that both of them conveyed it to him from their father Wail. It has several further chains: First chain: al-Tahawi (1/116, 131) and Ahmad (4/317-318) transmit it from Sufyan, from Asim b. Kulayb, from his father, from Wail, who said: “I saw the Prophet, when he pronounced the takbir, raise his hands level with his ears, then again when he bowed, and when he said ‘samiʿa Allahu liman hamidah’ he raised his hands …” Shuʿba corroborates Asim with the same report, which Ahmad (4/316) also records. This isnad is sound according to Muslim’s criterion. Second chain: al-Daraqutni provides another isnad that likewise meets Muslim’s criterion; it will be cited under the discussion of raising the hands during prostration. Third chain: from Shuʿba, from Amr b. Murra, from Abu al-Bakhtari, from Abd al-Rahman b. al-Yahsubi, from him, who said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah raise his hands with the takbir.” Al-Bayhaqi (2/26) and Ahmad (4/316) record it, and its chain is hasan (reliable).
