Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

And he instructed the man who had prayed incorrectly (1)—as cited earlier ⦗55⦘—and told him: “No one’s prayer is valid until he performs ablution, applying every act of it to its proper place, and then says: Allahu Akbar.” (2) And he would also say:

There are additional hadiths on this subject cited by al-Zaylaʿi (1/312–313); several of them will appear later in the book. (1) The wording, documentation, and various chains for this report have already been given under “Facing the Kaʿba” (pp. 55–57). It is the hadith of Abu Hurayrah that reads: “When you rise for prayer, perform ablution thoroughly, then face the qibla and pronounce the takbir …” and so forth. (2) This report also belongs to the episode of “the man who prayed incorrectly,” transmitted from Rifaʿah ibn Rafiʿ. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Kabir, saying: ʿAli ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz related to us; Hajjaj related; Hammad related; Ishaq ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Talhah related from ʿAli ibn Yahya ibn Khallad, from his father, from his uncle Rifaʿah: A man entered the mosque, prayed a hurried prayer, then came and greeted the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet replied, “And upon you be peace; go back and pray, for you have not prayed,” and this happened three times. The man said, “By the One who sent you with the truth, I cannot do better than this; teach me.” The Prophet ﷺ then instructed him, and the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith. This chain is sound; its narrators are those of the two Sahihs, as al-Haythami notes (2/104), except for al-Tabarani’s shaykh ʿAli ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-Baghawi, who is reliable, though he was criticized for accepting payment to transmit hadiths.
