It is likewise reported by Muslim; al-Tahawi; Ahmad (6/341–342); and Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (225) through additional chains that go back to Abu Murra. 3) From Jabir ibn Abd Allah who said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah praying in a single garment, draped in it.” Recorded by al-Bukhari (1/372); Muslim (1/62); al-Tahawi (1/223); al-Bayhaqi (2/237); Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (238); and Ahmad (3/294, 312, 326, 343, 351–352, 356–357, 386–387, 391) through various routes from Jabir, with Muslim’s wording cited here. Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, al-Bayhaqi, and Ahmad add: “crossing its two ends over his shoulders.” Al-Tahawi (1/222) also relates, through al-Qaqaʿa ibn Hakim: “We entered upon Jabir ibn Abd Allah while he was praying in a single garment, his shirt and cloak hanging on a peg. When he finished he said: ‘By Allah, I did this only for your sake. The Prophet was asked about praying in a single garment and replied, “Yes; and when would any one of you ever have two garments?!”’” Its chain is sound. 4) From Abu Saʿid al-Khudri to the same effect. Recorded by Muslim; Ibn Majah; al-Bayhaqi; and Ahmad (3/10, 59) through Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, from Abu Saʿid. Ahmad also transmits it through another chain in his Musnad (3/379).
