What Invalidates the Prayer
He used to say:
“A person’s prayer is interrupted—if no object the size of a saddle-back is set up in front of him—by a woman in menstruation (1), a donkey, and a black dog.” Abu Dharr said, “Messenger of Allah, how is the black dog different from the red one?” He replied, “The black dog is a devil.” (2)
(1) Al-Sindi, may Allah have mercy on him, remarks: “It is possible that the term refers to a woman who has reached the age of menstruation—i.e., one who is legally adult; on that basis, a young pre-pubescent girl would not break the prayer. Allah knows best.”

The wording cited here is that of Shuʿbah from Humayd, who adds: I asked, “Why the black dog in particular?” He replied, “My nephew! I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just as you have asked me, and he said: ‘The black dog is a devil.’ ”

ما يَقْطَعُ الصَّلاةَ
وكان يقول:
" يقطع صلاةَ الرجل إذا لم يكن بين يديه كآخرة الرحل: المرأةُ
[الحائض] (١) ، والحمار، والكلب الأسود ". قال أبو ذر:
قلت: يا رسول الله! ما بالُ الأسود من الأحمر؟ فقال:
" الكلب الأسود شيطان " (٢) .

" يحتمل أن المراد: ما بلغت سن المحيض؛ أي: البالغة، وعلى هذا فالصغيرة لا
تقطع. والله تعالى أعلم ". اهـ.

قال رسول الله ﷺ ... فذكره. واللفظ لشعبة عن حميد، وزاد:
قلت: ما بال الكلب الأسود؟ قال: ابنَ أخي! سألت رسول الله ﷺ كما سألتني؟ فقال:
" الكلب الأسود شيطان " (*) .
