Praying on the Pulpit (*)
He once prayed on the pulpit (in another narration: it had three steps) (1). He ascended it, pronounced the opening takbīr, and the people made the takbīr behind him while he was still upon the pulpit. Then he bowed there, rose, stepped backward until he prostrated at the foot of the pulpit, and returned again. In that cycle he did exactly what he had done in the first until he completed his prayer. He then turned to the congregation and said:
“O people! I have done this so that you may follow my lead and learn how I pray.” (2)

(1) The sunnah concerning the minbar is that it have three steps and no more. Adding further steps is an Umayyad innovation that often severs the prayer row (saff). Trying to avoid that by moving the minbar to the western corner of the mosque or into the mihrab is yet another innovation; likewise fixing it high on the southern wall like a balcony reached by steps attached to the wall. The best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. See Fath (2/331).

الصلاةُ على المنبر (*)
و" صلى ﷺ مرةً - على المنبر (وفي رواية: أنه ذو ثلاث درجات) (١) ،
فـ[قام عليه، فكبر، وكبر الناس وراءه وهو على المنبر] ، [ثم ركع وهو
عليه] ، ثم رفع، فنزل القهقرى حتى سجد في أصل المنبر، ثم عاد، [فصنع
فيها كما صنع في الركعة الأولى] ، حتى فرغ من آخر صلاته، ثم أقبل
على الناس، فقال:
" يا أيها الناس! إني صنعت هذا؛ لتأتموا بي، ولِتَعلَّموا صلاتي " (٢) .

(١) هذا هو السنة في المنبر؛ أن يكون ذا ثلاث درجات، لا أكثر، والزيادة عليها
بدعة أمَوِيَّة؛ كثيراً ما تعرِّض الصف للقطع، والفرارُ من ذلك بجعله في الزاوية الغربية
من المسجد أو المحراب: بدعةٌ أخرى! وكذلك جعله مرتفعاً في الجدار الجنوبي كالشرفة،
يصعد إليها بدرج لَصِيق الجدار! وخير الهدي هدي محمد ﵌.
