“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, upon the people of his household, upon his wives, and upon his offspring, just as You sent blessings upon the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And bless Muhammad, the people of his household, his wives, and his offspring, just as You blessed the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.” This was the very supplication the Prophet ﷺ himself used to say.
-
“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon [Abraham, and upon] the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You blessed [Abraham, and upon] the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
-
“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon Abraham [and the family of Abraham]. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You blessed [Abraham, and] the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
-
“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad—the unlettered Prophet—and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon [the family of] Abraham. And bless Muhammad—the unlettered Prophet—and the family of Muhammad, just as You blessed [the family of] Abraham, throughout all worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
-
“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger, just as You sent blessings upon [the family of] Abraham. And bless Muhammad—Your servant and Messenger—[and the family of Muhammad], just as You blessed Abraham [and the family of Abraham].”
-
“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, [upon] his wives, and his offspring, just as You sent blessings upon [the family of] Abraham. And bless Muhammad, [his] wives, and his offspring, just as You blessed [the family of] Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
-
“O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, and bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings to and blessed Abraham and the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.”
He ﷺ also legislated that they offer supplication in this tashahhud and elsewhere, saying: “When you sit after every two rak‘ahs, say: al-taḥiyyātu lillah…,” and he mentioned it to the end. Then he added, “After that, let him choose whichever supplication he loves best.” (ص 904–949)
