Asl Sifat Salat al-NabiNasir al-Din al-Albani

al-Darqutni likewise records the report (no. 135) as a Prophetic narration through another chain, but he judged it weak because of ʿAbd al-Wahhab ibn Mujahid. As for Ibn Majah, the Egyptian printed edition of his Sunan that we possess contains none of this extra wording. Ibn Raslan comments in his Sharh al-Sunan: “We did not find it in Ibn Majah.” This suggests a difference among manuscripts, a point supported by al-Sanʿani, who states (1/275) that he read it in a reliable, carefully-checked copy of Ibn Majah with the phrasing: “The Messenger of Allah would give the taslim to his right and to his left until the whiteness of his cheek was visible: ‘as-salamu ʿalaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.’” I add: the hadith does appear in Ibn Majah (1/295) through the chain of Abu Ishaq → Abu al-Ahwas → Ibn Masʿud, but without the addition, as noted above (*). Since the compilers of the Sunan and others also transmit it without the extra words, I remain unconvinced that the addition is established in Ibn Majah. Allah knows best. Regarding the hadith of Waʾil: Abu Dawud (1/157–158) transmits it from Musa ibn Qays al-Hadrami → Salama ibn Kuhayl → ʿAlqama ibn Waʾil → his father, who said: “I prayed with the Prophet, and he ended the prayer by giving the taslim to his right: ‘as-salamu ʿalaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,’ and to his left: ‘as-salamu ʿalaykum wa rahmatullah.’” This isnad is sound; all its transmitters are trustworthy narrators found in the two Sahih collections. (*) The Shaykh (rahimahu Allah) also cites it in Sifat al-Salah, appended to Ibn Khuzaymah’s Sahih (1/87/2 = 1/359/728), through the same chain, and including the extra wording in both taslims.
