(1) Ibn Hibban also records it in his Sahih with the wording: “When he had finished the prayer and given the salam ….” This plainly indicates that the supplication was said after the salam, though it is possible that he would say it both before and after the salam. I therefore maintain that this possibility must be accepted; otherwise one of the two reports would have to be attributed to an error on the part of a transmitter, or regarded as a narration conveyed in meaning only. The report cited by Ibn Hibban had already been transmitted earlier by Ahmad in the Musnad (1/102) with an authentic chain. Allah knows best.
