Isḥāq narrated to us, from Jarīr, from Layth, from Mujāhid, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: “We saw no objection to someone selling his copy of the Qur’an and, with its price, buying another copy that is better than it. Likewise, there is no harm in exchanging one codex for another. Thus, purchasing a Qur’an codex was deemed permissible.”
