ʿUbayd Allah ibn Mūsā narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAṭāʾ, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: “Purchase the Qur’an codex, but do not sell it.”
Bukayr ibn Mismār said: Ziyād, the freedman of Saʿd, informed me that he questioned Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both), and he replied: “We do not think it right to turn it into a means of trade; however, selling the product of your own hands carries no blame.”
