Ishaq narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzaq informed us; Maʿmar reported, from al-Zuhri, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: The Prophet ﷺ heard some people disputing and said, “It was exactly this that ruined those before you: they set one part of Allah’s Book against another, whereas the Book of Allah was sent down with each portion confirming the rest. So do not pit one part of it against another. Whatever of it you understand, state it; and whatever you do not, consign it to the one who knows.”
Abu ʿAbd Allah said, “Anyone for whom something remains ambiguous should, all the more, defer it to a knowledgeable scholar.”
