Qays ibn Hafs narrated to us; Talib ibn Hujayr narrated to us; Hud ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to me—he heard it from his grandfather Mazīdah al-ʿAbdī (may Allah be pleased with him)—who said:
Al-Ashajj came, and the Prophet ﷺ said, “Within you are two qualities that Allah loves.” He asked, “Is that a disposition with which I was created, or something I have acquired myself?” The Prophet replied, “Rather, it is a disposition with which you were created.” Al-Ashajj said, “Praise be to Allah who created me upon what Allah and His Messenger love.”
Mūsā narrated to us; Maṭar ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us; Umm Abān, daughter of al-Wāziʿ al-ʿAbdī, narrated to me from her grandfather Wāziʿ ibn ʿĀmir (may Allah be pleased with him). He went out to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet said, “O Ashajj, it is indeed Allah who has fashioned your nature.” He replied, “Praise be to Allah.”
Abū ʿAbd Allah said: “The Quran is to be regarded only as an attribute of Allah, and one must not ask ‘how’ with respect to it, however it is, for it is the speech of the All-Compelling One; He caused His servants to recite it. The reports narrated from the Prophet ﷺ are likewise mass-transmitted: that the Quran is the speech of Allah, that His command preceded creation, and that the Book itself proclaims this.”
