Khalq Afal al-Ibad lil-BukhariAl-Bukhari

Abū al-Nuʿmān narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated to us; Maṭar al-Warrāq narrated, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Buraydah, from Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿmar, who heard ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar relate from ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:

While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a man approached and said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?”

He replied, “It is to submit yourself wholly to Allah, establish the prayer, pay the zakah, fast in Ramadan, and make pilgrimage to the House.”

The man asked, “Then tell me about the bonds of Islam. If I do all that, am I a Muslim?”

He answered, “Yes.”

The man said, “You have spoken the truth,” and the narrator continued with the remainder of the report.
