Muḥammad ibn Bashshār narrated to us; Ghundar narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated from Yaʿlā ibn ʿAṭāʾ, who said: I heard ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim say—he said: I heard Abū Hurayrah say:
Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq said to the Prophet ﷺ, “Teach me something I can say each morning and evening.” He replied, “Say:
‘O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of everything. I bear witness that there is no deity except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of Satan and his shirk (polytheism).’
—and repeat it when you lie down to sleep.”
Saʿīd ibn al-Rabīʿ also narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated, giving the same hadith in full.
