Qutaybah narrated to us; al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥabīb ibn Abī Ḥabīb narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: “I was present with Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Qasrī in Wāsiṭ on the Day of Eid al-Aḍḥā. He proclaimed, ‘Return to your homes and slaughter, may Allah accept it from you, for I am offering Jaʿd ibn Dirham as my sacrifice. He alleges that Allah did not take Abraham as an intimate friend and did not speak to Moses directly. Exalted is Allah—supremely exalted above what Jaʿd ibn Dirham claims.’ He then came down and slaughtered him.” ⦗30⦘
Abū ʿAbd Allāh said: Qutaybah also remarked, “It has reached me that Jahm derived his kalām (dialectical theology) from Jaʿd ibn Dirham.”
