Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd al-Hāshimī narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them), who said:

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Your remaining time, compared with the nations who came before you, is like the interval between the afternoon prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah; when half the day had passed they grew weary, and they received one qirāt (share of reward). The people of the Gospel were then given the Gospel and worked until the afternoon prayer; they too grew weary, and each of them received one qirāt. We were given the Qur’an and continued working until sunset, so we were granted two qirāts.

The two earlier communities said, ‘Our Lord, You have given them two qirāts while You have given us one qirāt, even though we have done more deeds than they have!’ He replied, ‘Have I withheld from you any part of the reward that was due to you?’ They said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘That is My bounty; I bestow it upon whom I will.’”

ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allāh also narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated from Ibn Shihāb with this same report.

Abū al-Yamān narrated to us; Shuʿayb narrated from al-Zuhrī with this same report.

ʿAbdān narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated from Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī with this same report.

Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me; ʿAnbasah narrated to us; Yūnus narrated from al-Zuhrī with this same report.
