ʿAbdullāh ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; he said: Muʿāwiyah narrated to me, from Rabīʿah ibn Yazīd, from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, from Umm al-Dardāʾ, that she said: “Allah says, ‘Surely the remembrance of Allah is greatest’ (29:45). If you perform the prayer, that is part of remembering Allah; every good deed you do is part of remembering Allah; every evil you avoid is part of remembering Allah—and the best of all that is to glorify Allah (tasbīḥ).”

Moses—peace be upon him—said, “Remove the impediment from my tongue so they may understand my speech” (20:28).

And He said, “By the Lord of the heaven and the earth, it is surely the truth, just as certain as your own speech” (51:23);

and, “Allah, who makes everything speak, has made us speak” (41:21);

and, “He does not speak from desire; it is nothing but revelation sent down” (53:3–4).

Some commentators, on His words, “He increases in creation whatever He wills” (35:1), said: “It refers to a beautiful voice.”

And the Exalted said about Gabriel, “We do not descend except by the command of your Lord” (19:64), thereby clarifying that the descent is something other than the command itself.
