Abū Yaʿlā Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣalt narrated to me; Abū Ṣafwān narrated to us; from Yūnus; from al-Zuhrī; from Sālim; from his father, who said: “The first element to fade from acts of worship is the night-vigil prayer (tahajjud) and raising one’s voice during it with recitation.” Whenever Ibn ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him—was asked, he would say, “Let me hear it from you exactly as it was delivered.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “None of you should raise his voice over another’s in recitation.”
