ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yūnus narrated to us; Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl related to us; from Jaʿfar; from his father; from ʿAlī—and also from Jaʿfar, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥunayn, from ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: “The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—forbade me to recite the Quran while bowing.”
Abū ʿAbd Allāh said: “The Exalted One has said: ‘That a human being will have nothing but what he strives for, and that his striving shall be seen’ ⦗53:40⦘; and He, Mighty and Majestic, said: ‘Indeed, We sent Noah to his people: “Warn your people.”’ ⦗71:1⦘. Thus the conveying of the message and the warning came from Noah—he was a clear warner who commanded them to obey Allah—whereas forgiveness is from Allah, for He says: ‘He will forgive you some of your sins’ ⦗46:31⦘.
Then He said: ‘My Lord, I have called my people night and day’ ⦗71:5⦘, mentioning Noah’s supplication both secretly and openly, and what Noah did with his people. Then He said: ‘What is the matter with you that you do not revere Allah, when He has created you in stages?’ ⦗71:13⦘—recalling that He created the people stage after stage.
Allah the Exalted also said: ‘He is the One who created you; among you are disbelievers and among you are believers’ ⦗64:2⦘, and He, Mighty and Majestic, said: ‘Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor speak loudly to him as you do to one another, lest your deeds be rendered void while you are unaware’ ⦗49:2⦘.”
