And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was also commanded “to recite to Ubayy ibn Kaʿb a surah that had been sent down to him.”
Qabisah narrated this to us; Sufyan related it; from Aslam al-Minqari; from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abza; from his father, who said:
Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told me, “A surah has been revealed to me, and I have been ordered to recite it to you.”
I asked, “Was I actually mentioned to you by name?”
He replied, “Yes, O Abu al-Mundhir.”
I then said, “Abu al-Mundhir, are you pleased because of that?”
He answered, “And what could keep me from rejoicing when He says, ‘Say: In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy—in that let them rejoice’ (10:58)?”
Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us; Sufyan related it; from Aslam al-Minqari; from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abza; from his father; from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said something to this same effect to me.
