Ishaq narrated to us; Ya‘qub ibn Ibrahim reported to us; my father transmitted from Salih, from Ibn Shihab, that Mahmud ibn al-Rabi‘—the child into whose face the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, once cast a mouthful of water from their well—told him that ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him, informed him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There is no prayer for anyone who does not recite the Opening Chapter of the Book.”
