Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Ansari narrated to us; my father related to me, from Thumama, from Anas—may Allah be pleased with him—that when Abu Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—assumed the caliphate, he dispatched him to al-Bahrayn. He wrote a letter for him and sealed it with the Prophet’s signet ring, whose inscription was arranged in three lines: “Muhammad” on one line, “Messenger” on a second, and “Allah” on a third.
